Jewellery designer Alushia-Sanchia has the spirit of a wandering artisan running through her veins. Drawing inspiration from her nomadic upbringing, her parents were travelling gypsy jewellery-makers taking her from the UK to India, Japan, and an Aboriginal community in outback Australia . Along the way she discovered the magical beauty in the land, the power of spirit and the cultural diversity of every place she experienced. And she was hooked! Adapting these life-changing influences into her creative process, she came up with her gorgeous Native-American inspired jewellery line Alushia-Sanchia.

Alushia-Sanchia’s design aesthetic is largely influenced by her love of animal totems, tribes, gypsies, love, mother earth, music and the sun. Continually motivated by the power of love as a mother to son Jasper Fleetwood, she identifies with the strong protective and healing qualities of turquoise and black onyx stones that feature heavily in her collection. This has lead her to create jewellery which is not only beautiful, but continues the powerful tradition of jewellery as a talismanic object, something that protects us and reminds us of our connection with the mystical world in which we live.

Alushia-Sanchia is spiritual and passionate and these intrinsic qualities are reflected in her art “I truly believe it’s in my blood, I see so many things in every day life as jewellery – I am a perfectionist and love to create with my hands. I am so inspired by the whole process from the idea the drawing the design the making and the final product – its like magic. Jewellery to me holds emotion and represents moments in life.”

Who are your style influences and why? I love designers that have narratives behind their collections. The more thought that goes into a collection, the more expressive and meaningful each piece is to me. For example, Egle Cekanaviciute combines orthopaedics with tailoring to create her collection, ARTEFACT. It is both beautiful and intriguing.

What are you future aspirations re career, life etc? In the future, I look forward to completing my Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery, specialising in Neonatal care. I have always wanted a career in health, and I have finally decided on working with newborns. I love the balance in my life between the factual and the creative.

Loves? My closest and dearest friend, Luke O’Neill. He has influenced my life in every way. I would not be the kind of person I am, without him. As for a favourite designer, I tend to focus on buying one piece that suits my style rather than focusing on individual labels. I sift through twenty garments in a collection, and find the one that appeals to me most. I am very decisive with clothing: individual expression is a quality that I value and admire. From a very early age their paths were set. They didn’t know it at the time but when Savannah made Sienna's first fancy dress costume at the age of eight, the wheels were set in motion for a perfect partnership. Their respective obsessions were acted out from day 1 with Savannah knitting on pencils while Sienna wrote plays at every spare opportunity. Ultimately determination won and Sienna ended up at Lee Strasbourg film institute and Savannah at St Martins.

On completing their respective training they moved in together and the seed of twenty8twelve was planted. It was only natural that Savannah would fit her work on Sienna and Sienna would give comments and they found that their different approaches and ideas complemented each other. When they were approached by Spanish entrpeneur, Carlos Ortega to turn this dream in to reality it felt like a logical and organic step to take and twenty8twelve was born. The rest is history.

Described as "Genghis Khan meets Marie Antoinette" by her mother, Paz De La Huerta is Bessie Head's current girl crush for May. Her style is fierce and individual, and comes just as effortlessly as her talents on screen in HBO's Boardwalk Empire and in films such as Cider House Rules.

Perhaps the thing we love most about Paz is her large Cobra tattoo that slithers up her ankle. "It's to remind myself that I can transform... I can peel away layers of skin. I can constantly change myself".

Today's ELLERY show in Chippendale was arguably the highlight of the week. With appearances from Lara Bingle, Teresa Palmer, and Ruby Rose, the multi-level show was a frenzy of paparazzi, buyers and media. Harpers Bazaar sat opposite us, with the beautiful Christine Centenera wearing a sheer black skirt and wooly cardigan. Models filed out in pairs of two - some girls paired with male models wearing oversized Ellery knits, shirts and skirts. Jennifer Hawkins appeared in a floor length canary yellow show piece, Julia Nobis looked as beautiful as ever - All together we left wanting more than ever to be apart of the Kym Ellery dream.

This season Gail Sorronda was inspired by blown glass. Her collection "Stem the flow" saw the introduction of a new, rounder silhouette - as well as the introduction of Italian made knitwear - the majority of which was pleated into incredible shapes that moulded to the body.

At our appointment on Wednesday, Austin and Gail took some time to soak in the sunny weather and have a general chat about the label and the future. The ideal location presented itself a few Kodak moments...

Tuesday started bright and early with a drive to Eveleigh to see the Therese Rawsthorne show in an old warehouse. We ran into Ruby Rose who popped into the store a couple of weeks ago, and she agreed also that the collection was great. Therese stuck to what she does best - great pants, twist back dresses, and easy-to-wear basics in an array of new fabrics and colours.

When Steven Meisel called me his muse and wouldn't let me shoot with anyone else, it made me feel so special and taught me so much about the industry.

When are you happiest?
When I have downtime to see my family.

What is the one habit you just can’t break?
Throwing my clothes on the floor.

You grew up with six brothers – what was the best/worst thing about this?
We fought a lot when I was younger, they used to tease me because I was the only girl. Now they're my best friends and we couldn't be closer.

Who are you style influences and why?
I get influences from everywhere! People on the street in Paris, designers, other models ... it’s really easy for me because there’s style all around me.

Growing up, who were your music heroes? Who was on the posters on your walls?
I liked Mariah Carey, TLC and The Smashing Pumpkins.

What are you currently obsessed with?
Reading online newspapers.

If you had your time over, would you do anything differently?
I have no regrets!
